Biography for Terri E. Lyons

Nation Association of Professional Women member and Black Essence Award Winner Terri E. Lyons is the author of five books describing the experience and wisdom of her life and that of her elders. Through those experiences she captured the range of humanity in her compositions of biography and poetry.
Terri was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and attended Philadelphia public and private schools. She is a graduate of Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and pursued a career in science. After twenty five years in the corporate environment, Lyons’ intellectual and spiritual famine left her craving for jazz and history that reemerged with vengeance. It is a passion from her parents who were musicians from the early sixties, and from her memories of numerous Sunday dinners with her elderly family. 
What began as a hobby became a storm of passion as Terri exhumed a culture filled with wisdom and strong spiritual foundation that all but disappeared in conventional rhetoric and endless follies. In addition to storytelling and poetry, Terri has been guest speaker for graduations, organization events and narrator for plays.
Terri is committed to her ancestors to tell their story and to keep their place in history.  She is committed to learning and teaching history as a function of empowerment in an elusive struggle for equality.
